Cavapoo Journal Newsletter for February 2025: Activities to do with your Cavapoo outside!

Hello, fellow Cavapoo lovers!

I hope you’re as excited as I am about the arrival of spring! It'll be here in a few weeks!

Warmer days (not 100-degree temps) will motivate us to get outside more with our pets and allow them to exercise a bit.

This month’s newsletter revolves around that thought.

What are some things you can do with your Cavapoo outdoors?

1. Take your Cavapoo for a walk. Here are a few things to keep in mind: (1) make sure that you don’t over-exercise your Cavapoo. Exercising him for at least 40 minutes a day will allow him to vent his energy and sidestep any possible destructive behavior; (2) put a good harness on your dog. Read my article on harnesses by clicking this link. A harness will distribute your dog’s weight throughout his body, whereas collars place a lot of stress on the neck area, causing injuries; and (3) if you live in a rural area, be aware of larger dogs and wild animals who may approach and attack you and your pet.

2. Give him a haircut. You can save a lot of money if you’re able to give your Cavapoo a haircut! Make sure that the temperature outside is not too hot. Why? Because if your pup has tight curls, you’ll be outside for a while. You don’t want to overheat your Cavapoo or yourself! Make his haircut a pleasant experience so that he’ll cooperate in getting future haircuts.

3. Teach him tricks outside! Teach him how to catch a frisbee. Play catch with him by pitching a ball that’s soft enough so that it won’t damage his teeth.

4. When the weather warms, let him swim with you. Some Cavapoos are skittish of water. My Opie is okay in the pool when he’s in a doggie float.

5. Let him run in your yard! Opie loves to do figure 8’s outside. Always supervise his playtime outside!

I hope you enjoy this spring with your Cavapoo.

He needs exercise, companionship, and vitamin D.

Thanks for reading and for loving your Cavapoo!
